About
Moishe Kellman paints large abstract canvases in a home studio that is mostly garage floor. He works in acrylic and oil, then reaches for whatever the day offers: cement, staples, string, wood chips, bark peeled from a backyard tree, and leaves pressed straight onto the canvas.
Much of the work starts outside. Hikes, pine cones on neighborhood walks, cherry blossoms and fresh-cut lawns all turn into series. Other pieces carry grief and faith: a funeral in his community, a family member lost too young, the splitting of the sea, the light of the menorah.
He has shown at the Clio Art Fair in Manhattan and in a show in Brooklyn. His paintings hang in homes, offices and the houses of friends and family who received them as gifts.
